Remembering 1968
Ivan Klíma with John Tusa
Monday 28 April 2008
Ivan Klíma had already survived a concentration camp and the Stalinist
communist regime, when, in 1968 the Soviet tanks rolled into
Czechoslovakia and ended the liberal experiment of the Prague Spring.
Klíma chose to return home from London to a life of persecution and a
total publication ban. A seminal voice of Prague, Czech and world
literature and, alongside Vaclav Havel, an icon of intellectual
resistance. He talks to Czech born broadcaster and journalist, Sir John
Tusa, about freedom, honesty, love and politics.
Ivan Klíma's novels include My First Loves, My Merry Mornings and Love
and Garbage.
John Tusa is Chairman of the University of the Arts, London and former
managing director of the Barbican Centre.
